The Privacy of Your Personal Information and AHDB’s Farmbench & Farm Business Review systems
The Farmbench and Farm Business Review benchmarking systems are controlled by the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB). We take the privacy and security of both your personal and commercial information very seriously. We will never sell your personal data to third parties and the sensitive business financial information you provide will be treated as ‘commercial in confidence’ by us. How we use your information collected as part of these services and take care of it, is explained here.
Who we are and how to contact us
The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) is the levy board for the dairy, beef and lamb, pork, potato, horticulture and cereals and oilseed sectors. If you have any questions or concerns as to how your data is being processed you can contact the team at firstname.lastname@example.org or 02475 189300, or via the Knowledge Exchange Manager for your area at Meet the team Or you can write to the Data Protection Officer (DPO), AHDB, Stoneleigh Park, Kenilworth, Warwickshire CV8 2TL or at email@example.com
What personal information we collect and why
Both Farmbench and Farm Business Review are web-based benchmarking systems. The personal information we collect is your business trading name, farm name, first name, surname, complete mailing address, email address and telephone/mobile number to enable AHDB to set up and administer your account and to also inform you about other ways in which you can engage with and benefit from the work funded through your levy.
How we will use your information
Your personal information is used to create and administer a benchmarking user account for your farm and to contact you about Farmbench and Farm Business Review. It is also used to send you updates from AHDB e.g. the latest research, market intelligence, disease alerts, invitations to events and news on consumer marketing campaigns which could help your business to become more competitive and sustainable.
We may use the information you give us along with details about the publications you order or download, your attendance at events and the products and services you use, as well as data from other appropriate third parties, to help us make our information, services and communications more relevant for you.
Your farm business data is used to produce personal reports for you. In Farmbench it is also used to produce anonymised benchmarking reports for you and other Farmbench users, where your farm data is incorporated with that from other participating farmers in an anonymised and aggregated form, i.e. you and your farm business cannot be identified.
From time to time AHDB will also use aggregated and anonymised Farmbench and Farm Business Review data, i.e. you and your farm business cannot be identified, for research and analysis purposes.
Where farmers have formed a business group, each farmer will have access to the anonymised data of others taking part in the group, as will AHDB staff and/or consultants for use within the participating business group.
NFU Sugar may have access to Farmbench datasets for farms which have uploaded sugar beet enterprises, for research and analysis purposes. These datasets will not be anonymised and individual farms will be identifiable.
How we will keep your information safe
We ensure that there are appropriate technical controls in place to protect your personal information. Hard copy and online materials are kept secure with restricted and controlled access.
Your personal information is stored in the UK by AHDB on our secure network and cloud environment. Our third party suppliers operate under contracts that cover how they manage personal information and comply with applicable UK Data Protection legislation.
We will never sell your personal information to third parties and we will not release your personal information to any company outside of the AHDB for their mailing or marketing purposes.
Only the AHDB’s appointed data collector, AHDB staff or the consultant nominated by you, the farmer, has access to your full data. In Farmbench, AHDB also uses a validation contractor on occasions who must sign a confidentiality undertaking. The Farmbench data validators are RSK ADAS Limited and NFU Sugar.
Third country transfers
AHDB’s own systems and storage are within the European Economic Area (EEA) and as part of Farmbench your personal data would not be transferred to any third country.
How long we will keep your data
We will retain your personal information linked to your benchmarking data until you choose to unsubscribe from Farmbench or Farm Business Review by emailing your request to firstname.lastname@example.org
Your anonymised farm data will continue to be retained and used as part of the wider Farmbench aggregated data set for historical research purposes and statistical purposes, as permitted under the General Data Protection Regulations Article 5(1)(b). Neither you nor your farm business will be able to be identified from this.
As a levy payer, your personal contact details will continue to be securely retained by AHDB in order for it to fulfil its public tasks as a levy board.
By law you have certain rights over your personal data that we hold, such as the right to be informed about how we use your personal information, the right to ask us to correct any errors, the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you (a Subject Access Request) and the right to object to AHDB’s processing. See the Information Commissioner’s website for full guidance on your rights.
